DOG/CAT ADOPTIONS & DOG/CAT RESCUE IN FLORIDA
The Humane Society of Inverness, Inc., incorporated in September of 2004, is not affiliated with any other humane society.
The Director of the HSI started rescuing animals in 1998, but at that time, was focused only on one breed, the Bouvier des Flanders. She noted that there were many other breeds in need and soon, became involved in multi-breed rescue. Cats have been part of our rescue program for the past 3 years.
Since September of 2004, we have found loving, permanent homes for 4,297 homeless dogs and cats!!
We presently have the capacity to provide shelter for up to 80 dogs and 20 cats on site, with multiple foster families who assist us with the additional pets who will need a safe haven.

To Whom It May Concern:
The Humane Society of Inverness has been providing much needed assistance
to the pets in our rural, county shelter. In the past few years they have rescued
numerous dogs and cats from being euthanised. They have also taken in quite a
few injured pets and provided them with care and rehabilitation.
They provide free spay vouchers to individuals who turn in a litter of kittens or
puppies to our shelter, in their efforts to help stop the overpopulation of unwanted
pets.
Once they rescue these pets they ensure each animal is vetted, healthy and
then the place them up for adoption. They screen the applicants to find
suitable homes for all in their care.
The Humane Society of Inverness's assistance to our shelter has saved many
adoptable pets, and has lowered our euthanisation statistics drastically.
Sincerely,
David Weatherford, Director

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Michael Schenk, and I am the Assistant Director of the Levy County
Animal Services. As one may imagine, we have many stray, abandoned and homeless cats
and dogs that come into our shelter. As a shelter, we greatly depend on animal rescue groups
to come to the aid of many of these animals. Rescue groups are mostly corporate
organizations that have to follow certain rules and meet several requirements just to be able to
quality as a rescue group. The rescue groups that rescue from Levy County Animals Services
are also required to follow our own shelter policies, and return our paperwork completed, and
in a timely manner.
I established a Placement Partner Program in 2006. They are people that I can count on when
needed. One group that helps make up this small number is The Humane Society of
Inverness, located in Citrus County.
The Levy County Animal Services has been working with The Humane Society of Inverness
for 3 years. I have been to their facility several times, and have been to several of their foster
homes. The environment that they, and their foster homes, provide for the rescued animals
more than meets our requirements and specifications. Not only does The Humane Society of
Inverness meet the requirements of the Florida State Statutes of spay/neutering and rabies
vaccinations, they go several steps beyond that for the sake of the animals. They also test for
life threatening diseases. Should there be any animal that tests positive for such, they make
sure that they are treated and healthy before being adopted out to loving homes. The Humane
Society of Inverness has been an excellent group to work with, and has rescued numerous
cats and dogs from our shelter, which before rescue groups, was a high kill facility. They are
very dedicated to saving animals that are going to be euthanised, vetting the animals, and
finding suitable and approved homes through an application process. They accept donations
and have fundraising events to meet the needs of the vetting bills, as well as supplies to care
for the animals in rescue. They are dedicated to their goal of educating the public about being
a responsible pet owner, and bringing public awareness for the need to spay/neuter pets.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation for the outstanding
work that The Humane Society of Inverness does for Levy County Animal Services and the
animals in our shelter. I also highly recommend the work that they do for bringing education
and awareness to their own community and county on behalf of the many lives that they have
saved.
Should you need to speak to me for further inquiries, please feel free to call my office at

Respectfully yours,
Michael Schenk, Assistant Director
