| ELLBEE'S STORY Ellbee was originally rescued by Julie Parramore, RN, BSN, of Second Chance Animal Rescue and Norman's Wish Pet Care Consulting, 1-850-567-2040 The evening of December 7, 2009, Ellbee was hit by a car in 30 degree weather. A good Samaritan stopped, called me and I said bring her to me. Otherwise, she would have laid freezing in a ditch, dying a slow, agonizing death. She was previously shot. The birdshot pellets showed up all over her body on the x-rays. You can feel them in her body, her ears, all over. Bullets were removed from a kidney and her uterus during her surgeries and spay. When she came to me at my home, I started an IV, adminstered IV fluids, Dexamethasone and all other medications for shock protocol. She was also bleeding internally, blood from her rectum and vomiting. She had brain damage. I did not think she would survive an hour, much less the night. Ellbee did. She was paralyzed in all 4 legs at that time. No deep pain reflexes at all in any limb -- a very ominous sign. The next morning, I was preparing to take her in for euthanasia and be with her till the end. However, night one came and went. She had compound fractures of both femurs and hocks. She had a bone protruding through one leg. Both of her hips were fractured. Her left hip was completely shattered/dislocated ball and socket. Day #2: The very next morning she pulled herself straight up with her front legs, sitting on her haunches. Her front legs were showing slow progress. The hind legs were still flaccid/paralyzed. I made the decision not to give up but to give her time. She began eating, drinking and was alert. I took her to a local vet and got expensive digital x-rays taken. No spinal breaks, but a spinal compression at vertebrae T11/12 was revealed. It was uncertain if she would ever walk due to the spinal decompression, both broken hips and both broken hind legs. Not to mention the bullets at the mere age of 5 to 6 months old. I had 2 vets evaluate her here in Tallahassee, Florida. She was a train wreck, but there was hope. I just felt it and cared for her 24/7. On Days #4 and #5, I administered an IV drug used for spinal cord injury patients per protocol, to assist with spinal nerve regeneration. On Monday, December 21, 2009, she was transported from my home in Tallahassee to her final destination in Inverness. A very special THANK YOU to Lisa Storm for transport to meet Margret Nolan. Margret readily accepted Ellbee into her program and is paying for all other veterinary expenses and costs necessary for her recovery/rehabilitatory care. December 22, 2009: Ellbee had sustained extensive injuries. 2 surgeons tried to save her left hind leg, but the damage was so severe they could not. Her left leg had to be amputated. Her right hind leg was surgically pinned and is progressing well. She has had quite a rough road to recovery, but her prognosis is now good. Each day she has defied all odds and progresses. Ellbee has had acupuncture treatments. She tried to stand and walk on her hind legs less than one hour after her surgeries. Ellbee is a fighter, has a spirit and will to live like you could not believe! Against all odds, she was determined to win. Here are some photos of her progress: Ellbee's room, her toys, my heart sweater she loves and all the love Margret can possibly give her. To date, Ellbee is improving daily. She has acupuncture treatments, bratwurst from Margret as you can see and German home made potatoes with cream! ELLBEE IS NOW THE STAR FOR FRESH PET DOG FOOD. A VAST CHANGE FROM BEING HIT BY A CAR IN FREEZING WEATHER. EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS ONLY ONE HIND LEG, SHE IS LOVED, HAPPY AND READY FOR ADOPTION APPROVED BY DR. FOX, THE SURGEON, ONE WEEK FROM NOW! (January 19, 2010) Thanks to Margret Nolan, Founder and President of the Humane Society of Inverness, Ellbee has a happy life!
