WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR VOLUNTEERS.
WITHOUT THEIR TIRELESS HELP AT OUR ADOPTION EVENTS, WE WOULD
ONLY HAVE TIME TO DO ADOPT HALF OF THE FURRY BABIES WE DO!
BECAUSE OF THEM, WE DO ENOUGH ADOPTIONS EACH WEEK SO THAT
NEXT WEEK WHEN THE COUNTY SHELTERS CALL TO SEE IF WE HAVE ROOM
BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO EUTHANIZE A LITTER, WE HAVE
SPACE AVAILABLE

Sheilegh Gerrity was at Howard's Flea Market one day after moving one day after moving to the area and
saw our booth.  She has been in rescue before and stopped to play with the puppies.  She saw our
severely understaffed selves desperately trying to do 3 adoptions at once, keep the puppy pens poop free
and stopping to quiet the exuberant barking from puppies that wanted to get out and play with the
customer's dogs that were on leashes!  So, she helped out by picking up poop in one pen.  Then, she
asked us what kind of pups were in another pen and then started to tell someone interested in one about
the breed!  She helped us get another adoption, kept the puppies in line and kept all the pens clean while I
had one adoption after another!  In all, we did 14 adoptions that day in a 4 hour period and we wouldn't
have been able to get all those puppies and 2 kittens homes if it hadn't been for her.  Then, she came back
the next day and the next weekend!  Since then, she has come by one day roughly every other weekend to
help us, even for a few hours.  A few weekends ago, she came by and saw 3 puppies we had just rescued.
I didn't expect to adopt these puppies, I just brought them to get them used to seeing people.  They had
been on someone's property and his idea to capture them was to SET A STEEL JAW TRAP!!  So, the 10
week old female lost part of her leg to that trap.  The 2 brothers stayed with her when she was caught and
were captured with her.  The county shelter called us to see if we could save her and the 2 brothers
otherwise they were gong to have to be euthanised.  We took them in, got her the medical care required,
and named her Thumper!  Sheilegh asked me about them and I told her they were just at the market that
day to get socialized.  She offered to take them home with her to be socialized.  She did and the very next
week she found homes for Thumper and her brother Sheldon, the shyest of the litter!  She also has an
appointment for the last boy this weekend .... we will see!  Thanks, Sheilegh for your support!

Nicole and Briana (last name omitted because Briana is a minor)
Nicole saw a puppy on our site and fell in love.  They came to adopt her, now Bella, right away.  We had just
gotten a litter in, an emergency trip to save them, otherwise they were being euthanised.  Unfortunately,
Bella got sick after adoption.  When Nicole called us, she just wanted to let us know that she was quoted a
very large fee from another vet to help her, which she was prepared to pay.  We had all the facilities and our
own vet, so we didn't see a reason for her to have that expense.  We took the puppy back and nursed her
back to health.  Margret, our president, had the puppy in her home just so she wouldn't get lonely!  She was
fine in 2 days and we kept her for a few more just to be sure.  A very healthy and happy Bella was returned
to her new family.  The next weekend, Nicole and her daughter Brianna came to the market to volunteer.
Since then, they come by very frequently and stay all day to help us.  Brianna is getting volunteer hours for
her school.  They are tireless, hardworking, always in good spirits, and if it hadn't been for their support, we
wouldn't have been able to do all the adoptions in February that we did!  Thank you, Nicole and Briana, and
the rest of their family, for their time and hard work!

Steve-O (last name omitted because Steve is a minor.  He prefers to be called Steve-O)
Steve-O came to me one day with his mom and he inquired about volunteering.  His mother said that she
would come with him as his guardian.  Steve-O had a lot of questions, all of them well thought out and well
asked.  He asked for a membership form, took it home to fill it out, brought it back and came to volunteer!
He is hardworking and helps to clean the playpens and helps potential adopters to pick up puppies.  He
reminds everyone to sanitize their hands and helps to ask for donations when Doris is called away!  He
works hard, is very professional with the potential adopters and overall, is VERY dependable!  Thank you
Steve-O and Steve-O's mom for allowing him to come!  We couldn't get as many furry babies homes
without you!

I would also like to mention the many people that collect newspapers from their friends and neighbors,
and who give up their own time to deliver it to our adoption locations!  Without that very simple need filled,
we literally wouldn't be able to operate!  Thank you all!  There are several people that help us every week
with this and I am afraid that if I start naming names, I will forget someone!  But you all know who you are
and THANK YOU!!!!   Right now, we have so many pets available, we can use all the help we can get.  If you
can volunteer even an hour a week, the help is needed!!
